Who we are…

Soy la Primera recognizes the positive generational impact of post-secondary education (PSE) attainment.  While post-secondary completion rates are lower for first-generation students, upon completion of PSE, first-generation employment status, salary amounts, and post-bac completion are nearly the same as their continuing generation counterparts.  More importantly, children of first-generation PSE completers will now be considered continuing generation, whose prospects for PSE completion are significantly higher.  Increased political participation and improved socio-economic outcomes follow.

SLP aims to assist in the journey to a PSE for generations of women of color. And it starts with “la primera.” It won’t be easy, but it can start with you.

Our organization is comprised of women who are either “la primera” or who are continuing the legacy of their “primera.”
